Flooding is the most common and devastating natural disaster worldwide:
1.81 billion people are at risk of intense flooding (World Bank, 2022).
Since 2000, flood-related disasters have risen by 134% (World Meteorological Organization, 2021).
Climate change is driving more extreme weather, while urbanization and deforestation amplify flood risks (IPCC, 2022).
Floods uproot families, destroy livelihoods, and disrupt entire communities.
In 2024 alone, record-breaking floods have devastated countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The IFRC is at the forefront of flood relief, providing life-saving aid, helping communities reduce risks, and supporting recovery for those most affected.
